About Me

I help people become better thinkers, researchers, communicators, and decision makers. I help them work through their questions, develop effective research strategies, and communicate more clearly.

I have a record of outstanding teaching at universities in the United States, Australia, and Canada, held leadership and management roles in those universities, and been deeply engaged in strategic planning, curriculum development, institution building, and management. I earned a BA in Politics from the University of California, Santa Cruz and an MA and PhD in history from the University of California, Berkeley.

I am a clear, engaging, and persuasive thinker and writer. (You’ll find some of my informal writing on my blog on this site.) My academic research gives me a deep theoretical understanding of strategic thinking; my leadership and administrative experience provides the real-world background to develop and implement strategic plans.

My outlook is global and inclusive; I value the richness and diversity that contact with others brings us. I am an advocate for the principles that underpin a just society: political rights, civil liberties, and equality. I believe in the power of education to shape minds and transform the world.

Raised in Asia, North America, and Europe, I have, as an adult, lived and worked in the United States, Canada, Australia, Belgium, France, and Switzerland. I’m bilingual in English and French and speak passable German.

I’m an avid photographer, am engaged in the life of my community, and love spending time with my family.

I’m available for consultation and collaboration. If you would like to chat about ideas, plans, writing, or anything else, get in touch.
